Most states require an insurance card for the vehicle that your vehicle is being operated. In some states, proof of insurance is in the registry and no card is required. In New Hampshire and Wisconsin, no automobile insurance at all necessary. The card itself must contain your name, number of police and details of auto insurance.
The card auto insurance is an important document and should be an application, even if your state is not required. In Massachusetts, there is no need to carry an insurance card, but if you live in MA and are planning a coup, you must have one, it is better not to drive.
The penalty for not having proof of insurance can be a ticket that is a moving violation and raise your insurance premiums to be suspended license.
